5 Signs Your Phone Has Been Hacked Workplace Connect

Phone hacking involves the following activities, intercepting mobile telephone calls to listen to the calls in progress, taking convert control of the mobile phone to receive copies of text messages and other activity and remotely listening to activity around the phone.

This can be a serious security risk because the cybercriminal will have access to all of your personal accounts and could potentially commit identity theft with everything they find. Therefore, we want to show you 5 signs which could mean your phone has potentially been hacked.

1. Obvious decrease in battery life

If your phone has been attacked by malware, then you will notice that the battery life in your device drops significantly; and you have to charge it more frequently. The reason for this being, that the malware or spy app which has been installed on your phone will be using a significant amount of your phone’s resources; this is because it will be scanning the device as well as transmitting all the information to go back to the cyber criminal’s server. Where they are able to get all of your information for their personal gain.

However, it is worth noting that as phones get older their battery life will start to diminish meaning you will have to charge them more regularly. Therefore, this sign alone may not necessarily mean that your phone has been hacked.

2.Poor performance

Another sign your phone could have been hacked is if it is constantly freezing or any applications you try to use continually crash. This is because there could be malware on your phone which is overloading your phone and preventing it from functioning normally. In addition to this, the malware could be clashing with other applications which is why the performance of your device has significantly dropped.

Furthermore, if an application keeps running despite you attempting to close it multiple times, then this could be malware on your device. Finally, if your phone is restarting itself or crashing a lot, it could be a sign you are suffering from a cyber-attack.

3.High Data Usage

If you get a data bill at the end of the month which is a lot higher than you were expecting it to be, this could be due to a cyber-criminal infiltrating your device. The reason your data usage will be so high, is because the malware or spy apps which are running on your device will be constantly sending information back to the server. This will allow the cybercriminal to gather everything saved on your device and use it for their own personal gain.

4.Outgoing Calls and Texts You Didn’t Send

A definite sign that a cybercriminal has gained access to your phone is if you see calls or texts to numbers that you don’t know. It is highly likely that the numbers are at a premium rate and the malware on your device is the cause of this. All the money which you have lost will be sent straight to the cybercriminal and it can be difficult to get everything you lost back. Similar to the last sign, it is recommended to check your phone bill to see if there are any extra costs which you don’t recognise.

5.Unusual Activity on Accounts Installed on the Device

If a hacker has access to your phone this means they have access to your accounts as well, this includes:

  • Social media
  • Emails
  • Apps

This will give them the ability to do anything they want on your accounts. The most common things cyber criminals will do include resetting passwords, sending emails, reading your emails, and signing up for new accounts using all your personal details. This can be very serious because it is easy for cybercriminals to commit fraud when they know the necessary information. They have the ability to open new accounts or lines of credit in your name which could cost you more money as well.
